Creator: Swinburne University of Technology
Date: 2011
Description: On Monday 15 August the Pakistani Student Association raised the Pakistani National Flag at the Swinburne flag-pole as a celebration of the country’s 64th year of independence. Pakistani Independence Day is usually recognised on 14 August each year, the day before Pakistan was made an independent country based on border lines created by the British during the end of their rule of India. Following the celebration, The Swinburne Punjabi club hosted a second flag raising ceremony to recognise India’s sovereignty which was regained on 15 August 1947. Photograph appeared in the Media Centre Release: ‘Independence Day celebrations’ on 17 August 2011.
