|Title: ||Stained glass window [Coat of arms]|
|Creator: ||Gray, Jean Carson, 1927-|
|Description: ||"Given the assignment to create a window symbolising the present state of the University I placed the Coat of Arms in its rightful place and designed the rest of the window to harmonise and be in balance. Beneath the Coat of Arms, I have used an almost sculptural shape to create balance and support. Cut out almost, one could see the centre of the shape as the light of knowledge or governing force of the University. Around it, are symbolic expressions of the research disciplines of the University. These range from mediaeval symbolism to modern day images. The meaning of these symbols overlap considerably, and in doing so raise a matter of communication which is a linking thread. I have also used the fall of colour from the Coat of Arms to symbolise the whole in the diversity of study under one name."|
Jean Carson Gray was a student between 1946-1950.
